Trials/hearings/arbitrations, very technical or very difficult transcripts, misbehaving attorneys or witnesses, or the reporter is just having an unusually bad day...
There are some slight differences when scoping trials or hearings because there are more details and they are more time-intensive. Turnaround time will vary with appeals; however, I will send you portions or days as they are completed and not hold the entire trial/hearing until it's entirely finished.
Regarding any of the above instances, my rule-of-thumb is that if I get into significant portions of a transcript that is wall-to-wall argument in trials or hearings, the context of the transcript is exceptionally difficult and requires a lot of research and significantly slows down editing, if the translation is poor because of misbehaving attorneys or witnesses, or if you're a regular client and you're just having an unusually bad day, I will discuss with you a higher rate for the transcript.
Now, I'm talking about if the entire transcript is much more difficult, not if it's just a few pages here and there that got a little hairy. I will be very fair should I ever need to approach a client regarding a higher page rate for a particular transcript. And no modification of rates will be applied unless the reporter agrees.

New Clients Please Read:
I reserve the right to modify the page rate should the transcript be of exceptionally poor quality. The reporter will be notified promptly to renogotiate the rates or return the transcript should either be necessary.
I also reserve the right to return a partially-edited transcript and get paid for that portion if a new client has misrepresented the quality. That includes poor translation and/or poor writing which precludes me from maintaining a reasonable hourly rate of transcription.
